PASSING THE TIME.....

This is the foot of the bed and my feet in hospital sox (with grippers :-) passing the time by watching the ballgame (Tigers lost!)  I spent 24 hrs. in the hospital, because on Saturday I responded to a "perceived" stressful situation with distress--and experienced a tightness in my chest area and throat.  Being of the
age that I need to pay attention to symptoms, I told my Best-Half about it, and he would hear of nothing until I went to Emergency to get "checked out."   You don't just get checked out in Emergency--you get "Checked in."  Then they do stress tests, blood work, etc., etc, etc.....     Anyway, I passed the stress test with flying colors (thanks goodness for the fact that we excercise regularly at the "Y")  and got to go home 24 hrs. later.   I spent a lot of time pleading my case to go home--and fast!   I happened to have a w/c brush, and a limited little box of paints (no yellow! :-(    and also a little w/c postcard pack in my purse--so I amused myself by sketching as best I could while watching tv.

Lavender Azaleas

The Lavender Azaleas right underneath my Dogwood Tree are blooming now.  Such delicate flowers and a very pretty color.  My daughter Ruth ("The Gardener") gave me this bush several years ago for a Birthday gift.  Another one of those gifts that 'keep on giving.'

Finished the drawing

Sorry to print the same picture, but I did add a Bird to the (tiny) birdbath.  We get birds in there all the time--and I also added the tree at the end of the Brick Wall.

Grape Hyacinths

These Grape Hyacinths are getting a little "leggy-looking" now.  They were compact and shorter earlier in the week, but all of a sudden, thought I'd better get out there and sketch them before they resemble irises ;-)
They are planted down my front walkway so I can look out the Kitchen doorwall and see them perfectly.

Yellow-Bellied Sapsucker

I have a Yellow-Bellied Sapsucker that comes to the same tree every year, every Spring.  He drills tons of holes (and eats the sap, I presume).  I see him every Spring--and he stays on the same tree. He must be on his way (migrating?) to somewhere because he only stays a few days.  Since Birds do not pose for sketching, I looked in my Bird Book and sketched from there--to get all the little dabs of black or white in the right places (also the very light yellow belly :-)

Just had to get this out of the files for the contrast below.  So glad it's Spring!

Bloomin' DogWood

I posted this same picture in the winter with snow(See: Older Posts) on the branches and Wren House.  My Dogwood (Cornus Florida, Pink) is in full bloom right now and thought the contrast in Winter/Spring was fun.  It's interesting that we had such an early Spring--This Dogwood usually is in full bloom on Mother's Day (Middle of May)  but everything is so early--Love It!
